We are proud to introduce the
Freiberg Spine Institute, which we feel is a new approach in
our community toward the management of painful spinal disorders.
Our treatment philosophy is based on evidence that the great majority of
painful spinal conditions are benign and can have successful outcomes.
Therefore, our standardized, symptom-based treatment plans minimize
extensive diagnostic tests and unproved treatment modalities ( this has
recently been confirmed by the American Health Care Policy and Review
Guidelines), while improving patient outcomes and controlling costs.
Patients referred to the Spine Institute undergo an
extensive initial interview and physical exam. X-rays, MRI's and
other diagnostic testing are not ordered on a routine basis. An
individualized treatment plan based on the patient's is instituted,
with regular follow-up visits. Specific interventions, such as
physical therapy, are ordered when indicated and are closely
monitored. Advanced interventions, such as local injections or
epidural steroid injections are done only when other methods have
failed.
For those patients who require surgery, the Freiberg Spine
Institute surgeons have expertise in all types of
spinal surgery. They are experienced in performing cervical and lumbar
diskectomy, decompressive laminectomy for spinal stenosis, spinal
fusion (with or without instrumentation) for spinal instability or
spondylossis, as well as corrective surgery for scoliosis.
Since the treatment of painful spinal disorders is complex and does not
follow the traditional medical model for diagnosis and treatment, The
Spine Institute offers a multi-disciplinary approach. Included on our
staff are experts from the combined disciplines of orthopaedics,
physical medicine, physical therapy and psychology to provide a full
range of treatment options when necessary.
In this day of managed care, we realize the importance of controlling
costs while offering optimum medical care. The Institute has in place a
computerized data system to track not only our patient outcomes, but
also the cost of treatment. Quality care does not have to be expensive.
With these goals in mind, we intend to deliver the best, most
cost-effective care for the treatment of painful spinal disorders to
allow your patient to attain the earliest possible functional recovery.
Sincerely,
THE FREIBERG SPINE INSTITUTE PHYSICIANS
